VAT representation in Norway

VAT Partner acts as a VAT representative on behalf of foreign companies that need consultancy in matters concerning VAT registration and VAT return filing in Norway.

Foreign companies with a taxable turnover exceeding NOK 50 000 within a 12-months period, and who do not have a permanent establishment (place of business/place of residence) in Norway, are by the Norwegian VAT legislation § 2-1 point 6 obligated to register through a Norwegian representative. Further foreign companies have the same obligation as Norwegian companies. Meaning amongst other thing that they must keep accounts for their activities I Norway. With this also follows that they have to act according to the Norwegian bookkeeping legislation. VAT Partner has profound knowledge of the various requirements set by the authorities. Thus we will be a reliable partner regarding VAT treatment in Norway.

The registration process starts with the registration in the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities. The business will then receive a business number in Norway. When the business is obligated to register for VAT according to the NOK 50 000 limit we will submit an application for this as your Norwegian representatives. Several documents are required for the registration, including a Power of Attorney. When the company is registered for VAT we will report your VAT (both inputs andoutputs) bi-monthly, meaning six submissions per year. This submission is done electronically and we will need to receive all documents from the client in beforehand for control and checking the validity of the documents. As VAT representatives we are in some cases jointly and severally responsible for unpaid VAT. Therefore in some cases we require a guarantee from the client.

VAT Partner can also assist in correct fillings of Customs clearance documents related to Norwegian imports.
